The Pirate of Monterey Spiced Rum & Ginger Bastille Soap - Kitchen Witch Co.

California had pirates? Sort of. Hipólito Bouchard, a newly minted Argentinian with a grudge against his home country of Spain, had a bit of a luxury cruise down the California coast. Bouchard and his men systematically raided and plundered Spanish missions and strongholds in Alta (now California) and Baja Mexico. Starting in November of 1818, the Presidio of Monterey, Mission Santa Barbara, and Mission San Juan Capistrano before heading south for Mexico. Bouchard eventually jumped ship again (see what I did there?) and joined the Peruvian Navy as an admiral. Why not remember California's lone pirate with a bit of (vegan) pirate-inspired goodness in the form of a spiced rum soap?

We reduced an entire bottle of spiced rum to add to our vegan soap recipe. Sacrilege? Arg. We think not. After infusing our soap base with fresh ginger slices and whole cloves, we added hydrolyzed corn silk for the incredibly silky lather. Just before pouring, plenty of freshly pureed ginger joined the party. The tops of these rustic bars are decorated with whole cloves.

Will it Shave? Aye aye! While not formulated to be shaving soap, the lather is great for shaving.
